2 Metro Detroit Veterans receive new homes at Little Caesars Pizza Bowl

video-linkPittsburgh and Bowling Green put on a great show Thursday night at Ford Field, with Pitt winning the annual Little Caesars Pizza Bowl 30 to 27 over Bowling Green.

But it was something that happened at half-time that really stole the show — a special surprise for two military veterans.

It was an action-packed first half in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl between Pitt and Bowling Green.

Just as the players headed to the locker room for half-time and the bands took to the field, two metro Detroit military families waited on the sidelines, minutes away from a surprise that would change their lives.

“They just told us we were going to do half-time and say hi to everyone,” said Lt. Anthony Ashford

But Ashford, Sgt. Todd Beesley and their families were invited on the field for much more than that.
“It was the last thing I would ever think of,” said Beesley.

The Beesley family is moving into a house in Belleville. The Ashford family has a new place to call home in Detroit. Dina Harris is with the National Faith Homebuyers Program, one of the organizations that helped pull this surprise off.

“The homes that they are getting are beautiful and it’s going to give them a hand up that they much deserve,” said Harris. For these married veterans with children, it means they can provide a better life for their families. “For right now, I’m excited that I am finally a homeowner,” said Ashford.

“When they announced that, I literally thought I could have passed out,” Beesley said. Lt. Anthony Ashford, Sgt. Todd Beesley have new places to call home.
