Westland Foreclosure Project
Eligibility Criteria
Westland residents that meet the following requirements:
- Documentation of loss of income due to the COVID-19 pandemic or associated Executive Orders
- Documentation of current mortgage document
- Documentation of unpaid mortgage (eligible back to April 1, 2020)
- Income that does not exceed HUD established income limits
- Liquid assets do not exceed $15,000
- Property taxes for assisted address must be current, or application is complete with Wayne County Treasurer’s Office for exemption and/or payment plan.
Program Guidelines
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) provides much needed assistance to the American people as the country works diligently to combat COVID-19.
HUD allocated Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) funds to the City of Westland to fund COVID-19 relief activities. The City of Westland Included in the HUD CDBG-CV Eligible Activities to Support Coronavirus and Other Infectious Disease is a provision to provide mortgage foreclosure counseling for low and moderate-income persons that have lost income directly related to COVID-19.
The City of Westland has established the Westland Resident Homeless Prevention Fund, a program to assist vulnerable Westland residents with short-term rent or mortgage assistance in order to mitigate the impacts of revenue Losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and associated Executive Orders.
Program Details
City of Westland has contracted with National Faith Homebuyers to provide mortgage foreclosure and pre-foreclosure counseling.
Counseling is intended to assist clients with avoiding mortgage foreclosure.
Eligible low-moderate income applicants must demonstrate the following:
- Loss of income related to COVID-19 pandemic or associated Executive Orders
- Current mortgage unpaid charges (eligible back to April 1, 2020)
- Current mortgage document
- Income that does not exceed HUD established income limits
- Liquid assets do not exceed $15,000 (based on Homebuyer Assistance Program)
- Proof that property taxes are paid current, or application is complete with Wayne County Treasurer’s Office for exemption and/or payment plan.
Application Process
- Applicants must complete the application and provide supporting documents.
- Application may be obtained at www.nationalfaith.org or by calling 678-553-3772.
- Applications may be submitted until designated grant funds are disbursed or the City of Westland determines that grant funds are no longer necessary.
